Nervous System Regulation

Grounded in Scientific Research

Leon

Welcome!

My name is Leon and this site will be dedicated to my passions of brain science and meditation (in particular my Newsletter ). I started my bachelor's in cognitive science nearly a decade ago. Back then I didn't quite expect that the combination of my universities subject and interest in meditation would turn into a long journey of investigating the brain and mind.

Today, I hold academic degrees in neuroscience (M.Sc.), as well as cognitive science (B.Sc.) and explore practical methods for regulating the nervous system — grounded in research and aimed at helping you thrive in everyday life.

Neuroscience investigates the brain.
Meditation investigates the mind.
Where do they meet?

Neuroscience

Modern brain science has advanced tremendously in recent decades, thanks to improved methodology and technology. Quantitative and empirical research is extraordinarily important for making sense of our brains, our behavior, and subjective experience - so in essence, everything we consider to be important.
But some limitations must be addressed: The subject of study is often the average brain — not yours or mine. And even if evidence is strong, its application to our own lives is difficult. That is why, I want to dedicate my time to science communication in this fascinating field of research.

Meditation

The term "meditation" is an umbrella term for many ancient contemplative practices that have recently gained increasing interest in western society. Science can investigate many of their outcomes and mechanisms. Thereby, deconstructing which practices have effects and are worth to spent our time with.
Looking beyond clichés, I learned that there are many practices that are free of spiritualism and mantras, perfectly compatible with my rational and scientific worldview.
These are of particular interest to me as they focus on attention control, stress regulation and improving meta cognition.

Tech & AI

It is undisputed that we are entering the digital age of ever-increasing connectedness and AI automation. At the same time, people feel increasingly more uncertain, purposeless and anxious. Recently, I became aware of the term "attention economy" which means our human attention is a scarce commodity. In my eyes there is a dangerous trend: Modern technology enables the direct conversion of human attention into profits. Google, Meta and TikTok have all shown just how much profits. I am exploring how you can use modern technology to your advantage — to improve well-being, enhance health, and reduce its negative effects.
